At just a wee age of 14, Brian stepped into a bricklaying apprenticeship and did the hard yakka building cottages.6 years later, Brian was offered the opportunity to commence in the Kerbing industry as a sole contractor working his way from a slurry mixer to the right-hand man. The motto was….
The harder you worked, the more metres laid, the more money earnt!
With hard work, passion and determination, Brian’s dream grew and he went on to buy an existing company in 1986 and traded under the name of Scattergood Concreting Pty Ltd.
In 1997 the company name changed to Statewide Kerbing Pty Ltd. This was driven by company growth and recognition within the construction industry and was soon known Australia wide.
In the year 2000, Nationwide Slipforming was born. When they say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree…. this is certainly the case with this fabulous father/son duo. Warren’s innovative abilities saw us successfully slipform slotted drains…. The first in Australia!
Brian continued to maintain a strong hold in the industry. He was well respected and acknowledge by his peers.
However, in 2015 Brian hung up boots as a business owner and in turn opened the doors for Warren to start his own venture.
Brian continues to work along side Warren and passes on his knowledge and expertise to those around him.
We can confirm there is a little more time for the things Brian enjoys in life
We asked Brian…
1) What’s the worst job you have ever had, and what did you learn from it?
“Bricklaying! You get a sore back.”
2) What advice would you give to your teenage self?
“Don’t change a thing”
3) If you were the only human left on earth, what would you do?
“Ride my bike, eat cheese & bikkies, drink red wine and simply try to survive”
What a great achievement and we are fortunate to have Brian pass on his wisdom!
